DPS Update

For my DPS, I have added a collage of photos that I took on one side of the page instead of one big photo because I feel that it looks more effective and it shows the reader what the band is all about before they have read the article.  I think my DPS has come along very well.

DPS Update

This is the DPS that I am going off to create my music magazine Double Page Spread.  I'm trying to put my text into columns like this DPS and I'm planning on making my pull quote bigger so it stands out.

Lesson Update

In this lesson I plan on almost completing my DPS so then I will just need to edit little parts of it that I may not be happy with.

DPS Update

This is the start of my DPS for my music magazine.  I have added an 'exclusive interview' text to my DPS or a slug to show the reader straight away that it is an important article.  I am planning on putting in some more photos of the band to make it look like an actual DPS.

Lesson Update Target

In this lesson, I plan to start on my DPS and create the basic layout that I want and then I plan on editing it to make it presentable and to make it look like an actual music magazine.

Contents Page Update

I have added an extra information part to my contents page and i have added a hint of colour to it to make it more presentable to my target audience.  I moved the image to the side to be able to add more information, I did this because it will pull the audience in and they will want to read more about it.

Lesson Update

This lesson, I'm going to be editing my contents page to make it stand out more and to make it more like a real magazine so that people would want to buy it.

Contents Page Update

I have added more page numbers because my magazine is a monthly magazine and they tend to have more pages.  I have also added some more text to the "Subscribe" part of the magazine to get more publicity and to get people to buy the magazine.

Contents Page Update

I have now put the font cover on the contents page for the subscription.  I feel like my contents page is coming along very well and my magazine is now starting to come together.

Contents Page Edit

This is the start of my contents page for my music magazine.  I have a dominant image of the band at the top and I have kept the masthead the same but I have just changed the colour of it so it stands out on a white background.  I have added page numbers with a little information about what is on that page and I have added the website at the bottom.  I have put and little information about subscribing to the magazine, however, I still have to put a photo of the front cover on there too so it references to that.

Front Cover Update

It is only a slight change but I have added 'stroke' to the tag line o give it a black outline to make it stand out a little and to show that it connected to the masthead.

Front Cover Edit Update

I have changed the colour of the essential information because I thought that there was too much yellow on the cover and also it isn't as important as the puff and the sub head.

Magazine Front Cover Update (2)

I have now put my cover lines in a banner at the bottom of my magazine and put the puff further up the magazine.  I have done this because it looks more effective and the cover lines stand out more and they now don't fade into the wall in the background.

Magazine Front Cover Update

I have now changed the colour of my main sell line because it was fading into one of my model's shirts and now it stands out more and it is more visible.  I have also changed the font of my cover lines to make them bolder and so they don't fade into the wall.  I have also made the tag line bigger because it was too small and hard to see.

Lesson Update

In this lesson, I plan to check my spelling, re-size my dominant image and also play about with the font and colour of my text.

Reflection On Front Cover

I feel that my front cover is coming along really well and it is starting to come together.  Everything that I wanted to do this lesson has been done and even some extra things, such as, putting in an extra banner and changing the colour of my sub head.  I am very pleased with how my magazine is turning out.

Front Cover Edit Update (2)

I have now edited my sub head and changed the colour to yellow to make it now vibrant and for it to stand out for the reader and also Kerrang! magazine uses yellow a lot of their front covers so I thought that it would look effective.  I have also added a circle behind the word 'Plus' to make it visible because it was blending into the background.  I have also added an extra banner at the top of my magazine and added some text that will apply to all of the readers.

Front Cover Edit Update

I have edited the masthead but putting a black outline around it to make it stand out and so it doesn't bleak into the background of the image.  I have also put the magazines website on there and I have added some extra information on the right hand side just to make it more interesting and eye catching to the reader.

What Is Inspiring Me To Create My Music Magazine

What is inspiring me to make my music magazine like this is having all of the band on the front cover  for the dominant image instead of just the lead singer.  I like it this way because it shows you that all of the band are important in the music that they create and I think that all of the band play a huge part in their success, not just one individual.  Also, I am getting inspiration from the main sell line and the sub head because they stand out and they go straight across the image of the band which I really like because it makes both, the dominant image and the main sell line, stand out and it shows the reader that both the image and the text are connected.
Also, the band that I am basing my magazine on, Real Gone, is a huge inspiration to me because their lyrics mean a lot to me and also everyone that listens to them.  They create amazing music that deserves to be heard and they are a down to earth group of guys that enjoy what they do which is a big inspiration to me.

Front Cover Update

In todays lesson, I plan on editing my front cover and changing the fonts on some of my text and maybe putting some extra information on there.

Front Cover Progress

This is a reflection of what I have been doing this lesson.  This is my front cover for my magazine.  I think that it is coming along very well but there is a few changes that I may have to make, such as, the essential information font to make it stand out more. I will be putting on an image of concert tickets to add to the give away.  Overall, the front cover is coming along great and I am very happy with my progress.

Status Update (3)

This is my third status update.  I have had some problems trying to get all of the band together to take the photos of the magazine because they are either away or have jobs and struggle to find time off.  However, I have resolved this problem by getting them to arrange a time that they can all get together so I can take the photos.  Overall, I think that it is going well as long as I keep on top of work.

Photos from the Photo Shoots

These are all of the images that i had taken for my magazine.  Some of them I used and some of them I didn't for certain reasons.  Those reasons were it was either too blurry, the band were in mid conversation or they were sneezing or coughing, all effecting the photo quality.  The ones I did use were mainly the ones when they were performing at a gig that I went to.  This was because it looked more natural, getting them performing but also I used other photos on the second photo shoot because they were also natural which made it look good and also grungy.

Location Scout

This is the location that I chose to use for my magazine photos.  This location is the Civic Centre in Sunderland City Centre.  I chose this location because it was out of the way of oncoming traffic and also there wasn't many people walking past that would have disrupted the photo shoot.  I also chose this location because it looks very effective for the band's genre, being grunge/rock, and it added to that feeling.
